Groomers' Biographies:
Cynthia~ After retiring from a career as a professional ballet dancer and teacher, Cynthia
decided to pursue her childhood love of dogs, completing a certificate in canine grooming in
Hartford, Connecticut. She has operated her own dog grooming business, as well as worked
for veterinarians and no-kill animal rescue shelters. Her love of dogs and cats also led to
working with animal behaviorists, canine obedience training, managing animal assisted
therapy programs and most recently working with rescued farm animals before moving to St.
Louis last May. Cynthia looks forward to becoming your companion animal’s best friend at
Pets in the City's grooming facility.
Jamie~ Jamie always dreamed of working with animals and in 1993 made that dream a
reality. Working from the bottom up, she started as a bather/brusher for Kennelwood Village
for a year before attending and graduating from the Tom Rose School of Grooming. For 11
years she worked for a wonderful show groomer and grooming shop owner, Virginia Book,
who further instructed her how to "groom pets with a show dog quality.” Two years ago she
started a small home-based business grooming and pet sitting, and this past year attended
The Animal Behavior College so she could add dog behavior training to her list of pet
services. Jamie is looking forward to meeting you and helping with your pet's every need at
Pets in the City.
Laura~ Laura is new to Pets in the City. We are very happy with her grooming skills and
look forward to a long and happy relationship with her! Stop in to meet Laura and schedule
an appointment!

MENU
Full Grooming
Includes breed-specific cut or whatever directions on clipping that you give to the groomer,
brush out, all-natural spa bath (our shampoos are environmentally-friendly and extremely safe
for your pets...plus, we choose the appropriate shampoo for your pets condition), ears cleaned
(plucked if needed), heat-safe dryers and hand-drying, hand scissoring clean-up.
Grooming Prices
Please call for a pricing idea. Unlike some shops who quote a price and then, when you get there, they
have "special packages" to add on which end up costing you much more than your quoted price, we
will give you a quote range (i.e. $35-45) for the type of dog you tell us you have. Upon seeing the dog,
we are then able to give you a better idea of what your charge will be based on your dog's size,
condition of the coat and what it is you want done.
Grooming Time
We pride ourselves in doing the very best for your dog that we can, even if it might take a little more
time than we originally discussed. We are committed to the best groom we can do; we aren't bound by
"promise times" to the extent that we will do a less than quality job for you or your dog.
Why we crate your dog:
The main reason is that we do it for the dog’s own protection. We are not a day care facility and do not
have the ability to monitor play groups. Unlike shops that let your dog roam with others, we just try to
avoid any potential problems and/or harm by being keeping them in their own, safe area. Professional
Doggie Daycare facilities employ trainers to specifically behavior test dogs prior to allowing them into
the facility for group play.
Grooming Guarantee:
If you are not happy with your grooming job or think your dog/cat is not acting right,
please inform us within 24 hours of your pet's appointment. ~ Thank you!
About Anal Gland Infections
Your dog may happily pass through life without ever having any problem with his anal glands, but not all
dogs are so lucky.
Occasionally, these glands can become infected. This usually happens when the oil isn't properly
expressed over a period of time, giving it the chance to build up bacteria. This frequently happens when
a dog's stools are soft and mushy; they lack the firmness required to put proper pressure on the glands
as the feces is evacuated.
When an infection occurs, you will likely notice several signs that your dog is feeling uncomfortable.
These might include:
* Scooting his bottom across the grass or floor
* Excessive licking and chewing at his behind
Signs of a severe infection might include:
* Distinct bulges just beneath the surface on either side of the anal opening
* Drainage from the rectum
* One or more abscesses in the immediate area.
If you notice any of these signs, it may be time to have your dog's anal glands expressed to get rid of
the infected fluid so the glands can function properly once again. However, this is best left to your
veterinarian, because applying pressure to an extreme anal sac infection could cause the structure to
rupture, leading to bleeding and painful complications for your pet.
Maintaining Your Dog's Anal Gland Health
Some dog owners prefer to use a little routine maintenance to head off anal gland problems by
manually expressing the gland themselves before a grooming session.
This can be accomplished by covering the dog's rectum with a cloth and applying gentle pressure to the
pea-sized lumps on either side. This will usually cause a small amount of oily liquid to emerge, but
sometimes the secretion will squirt out if the glands are particularly full, hence the covering of the
rectum with a cloth before you begin.
If this activity doesn't sound like something you'd feel comfortable with, you should know that many dog
groomers will perform the task at your request. You should also be aware that not all dog experts agree
that the anal glands should be interfered with in any way unless a dog is showing signs of a problem.

TEN REASONS YOUR DOG'S HAIRCUT MAY COST MORE THAN YOURS
10. Your hairdresser doesn't wash and clean your butt.
9. You don't go for 8 weeks without washing or brushing your hair.
8. Your hairdresser doesn't have to give you a sanitary trim.
7. Your hairdresser doesn't have to clean your ears.
6. Your hairdresser doesn't have to clean boogers from your eyes.
5. You sit still for your hairdresser.
4. Your haircut doesn't include a manicure or pedicure.
3. Your hairdresser only washes and cuts the hair on your head.
2. You don't bite or scratch your hairdresser. (I hope not anyway).
And the Number 1 reason your dog's haircut costs more than yours....
1. The likelihood of you pooping or peeing while your hair is being cut is extremely slim! :-)
